Process
Working alongside the creative director and marketing manager, I began with in-depth competitor analysis, reviewing other hair system companies to understand how they presented their services, testimonials, and client imagery. From there, we identified opportunities to differentiate Mane Image by leaning into an approachable, empathetic, and compassionate tone. We also pulled inspiration from popular websites across industries, studying the elements that made them feel welcoming and intuitive to navigate.
With this foundation, I collaborated closely with the creative director on the design and layout approach, while the marketing manager guided content structure and SEO considerations. Imagery came primarily from the client, supplemented with carefully selected stock photography that aligned with their brand’s look and feel. Throughout the process, I maintained open communication with the development team, ensuring that prototypes and design files were structured for a smooth and efficient handoff.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the main challenges was the disparity in quality between client imagery. While the “after” photos were professionally shot and polished, many of the “before” images were lower resolution and inconsistent. To solve this, I developed a picture-in-picture approach that showcased the professional “after” photos prominently while still integrating the authentic “before” shots for context. I also used Photoshop extensively to edit, clean up, and unify imagery, creating a cohesive and professional visual experience across the site.
Impact
While there’s no formal data available on performance, the redesign successfully delivered a site that was clean, modern, and approachable. The client was provided with a platform that not only elevated their brand presence but also aligned with their values of empathy, trust, and care. This is key to building confidence with an audience while navigating a sensitive and personal issue.
